Sabahat has well-rounded fiber optics expertise encompassing design, fabrication and characterisation of optical fibers as well as design and real-world testing of fiber-based sensing setups.
"The evolution of an optical fiber in terms of its structure, fabrication methods and applications, bears testimony to the creative potential of this unique waveguide. Its creative journey is far from over and I am happy to be a part of it."
For her PhD work, Sabahat designed and implemented a novel fiber optic sensing scheme based on geometric/topological phase. It was tested to sense ground vibrations from a massive test-blast from 10 kg of buried explosives.
Her hobbies are swimming, drawing and cultural exploration.
"RCALS is a lovely place! You have basically everything you need to do research. A comfortable working environment, state-of-the-art research facilities, helpful colleagues and most importantly, competent supervision!"
